Together Time is the Focus During June Family Fun Month in Beech Mountain

As the highest town in eastern America, Beech Mountain offers a cool escape for families to get away from everyday life. And no time is better than June, when the town’s Family Fun Month provides 30 consecutive days of organized family activities.

Family Fun Month, now entering its third year, is designed to bring families back together through outdoor activities and adventures.

Parents, kids and grandparents can choose from a long list of things to do, including family hikes, ride-along ATV tours, scenic chairlift rides, disc golf, mountain biking, movies under the stars, and trips to nearby Grandfather Mountain. There are even Friday tours of the old Land of Oz theme park.

“Family Fun Month is perfect for families who all too often postpone ‘together time,’” says Kate Gavenus, tourism director for the town of Beech Mountain. “We only get 18 summers with our children, so take time with the family while you can.”

All major entities on Beech Mountain join forces to make Family Fun Month a complete experience. It is a collaboration of the Beech Mountain Tourism Development Authority, Beech Mountain Resort, Beech Mountain Club, Beech Mountain Chamber and local accommodations.

Fitness-oriented families should circle the weekend of June 10-12 on their calendars. That is the Cool 5 Race Weekend, which includes a challenging five-mile run, a shorter fun run, popsicle relay race and other active pursuits.

The weekend of June 17-19 features the second annual Mountain Invitational Junior Golf Tournament at Beech Mountain Club, along with the inaugural Mountain Invitational Junior Tennis Championship at the club.

And if you run out of fun things to do on the mountain, take advantage of discount tickets to nearby Grandfather Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, Linville Caverns and the Biltmore Estate.

Three lodging specials make it even more enticing. Families who stay two consecutive nights in June receive a third night at no charge, or they can opt for a 25 percent discount on visits of five nights or more. A 10 percent discount is available for shorter, two-night stays.

Beech Mountain Resort Season Passes Now On Sale

Looking for a great deal on a season pass? Beech Mountain Resort's "super saver" sale is back! Beginning Monday, Oct. 5, a limited quantity of season passes will be available at the discount rate of just $400. These passes provide unlimited skiing and snowboarding for the entire 2015-2016 season. Only 200 of these super saver passes will be sold, so be sure to order quickly because once they sold out, they're gone for good.   Beech Mountain Resort is poised for a great winter thanks to a busy offseason of upgrades. Those upgrades include 14 new SMI Super PoleCat snow guns, a complete renovation of the Beech Tree Bar and Grille, significant improvements to the high speed quad and other lifts, and the installation of new, state-of-the-art snowtubing park. Keep in mind that only 200 passes will be released Oct. 5, so be sure to order yours!   Another nice option for regular skiers and snowboarders is renting a locker for the season.  Season lockers are available for just $125. The lockers are located in a private locker room in the Beech Tree Village. The room features 93 individual/family lockers and is a short walking distance to everything. Locker season pass holders enjoy private bathroom and door access at an annual rate of only $125 per locker.   As part of the renovation of the Beech Tree Bar and Grille, the resort is resurrecting the Red Baron Room.  The Red Baron Room is a private club which originally opened in 1970 in the bottom level of the Beech Tree. The room is authentically decorated with World War I flying memorabilia and dedicated to German flying ace Baron Von Richthofen, known as the Red Baron.  This unique room, which has not been used for many years, has been remodeled and will be available only by private membership. Membership in the Red Baron Room for the 2015-16 season is $100 for individuals, and $175 for families (immediate family members only).

Beech Mountain Resort opens Friday for summer; Live music Saturday at Beech Mountain Brewing Co.

Beech Mountain Resort opens its summer season Friday, June 5, along with the grand opening of its Emerald Outback Trail system.

The resort will operate Fridays from Noon to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The summer season goes through Sept. 27.

“Beech Mountain is incredibly beautiful in the summer,” said Talia Freeman, Beech Mountain Resort’s director of marketing, “and, we are excited to share this experience with our visitors. We are working hard to fine tune that experience, and I think the improvements will be noticed.”

The resort will offer activities for the entire family this weekend in addition to its regularly scheduled mountain biking and lessons. Headlining Saturday’s events will be live music from 4-7 p.m. at the Beech Mountain Brewing Co., featuring “If Birds Could Fly,” three young folk/Americana musicians from Big Stone Gap, Va.

Beech Mountain Brewing Co. is the resort’s owned and operated brewery and tap room. It provides a variety of beers and special events. Please check the calendar for a live music schedule. The brewery will also open Thursdays from Noon to 7 p.m.

Beech Mountain Resort, along with Beech Mountain’s Family Fun Month, will offer on Fridays in June a chance to escape into a land of fantasy and excitement, with guided tours of the old Land of Oz property at the top of one of North Carolina’s majestic mountain peaks. Tours will be at Noon and 3 p.m.

Lift tickets can be purchased 15 minutes prior to the tour time at Ski Beech Sports in the resort village. Lift tickets are $10 each, and the tour will cost $10, cash only.

Beech Mountain Resort also offers the area’s first chairlift-accessed Disc Golf Course hosting multiple and unique tee locations accommodating all skill levels, Innova Dispatcher Pro Targets, and a picture-perfect “Signature” hole from this professional level course. Innova discs are available for purchase or rent. Cost to play is $10, including a single ride to the first tee.

For the cyclists, Magic Cycles will be on hand this summer to offer a complete line of biking products, rentals, repair services and upgrades for road and mountain bikes.

Newly updated trails at Beech Mountain Resort provide a riding experience for a wide-range of skill levels, plus daily half- and full-day lessons, clinics and guided rides available for the beginner.

The entire family can take a scenic lift ride to enjoy the stunning views of the highest ski area in eastern America, or just ride to the top of the mountain to find 5506’. Unwind with a snack, drink or lunch, or just enjoy the best view in the High Country! 5506’ is a great place for lunch with the family. It can also be rented for private functions.

Starting June 13, 5506’ will offer yoga on Saturdays. This will certainly be the most scenic and beautiful yoga class in the High Country.
